Artist Interviews: Maiah Wynne

Maiah Wynne is an up and coming artist who just moved to the Portland area to jump start her career. In the past year she starred in and performed in a movie, and is currently in the process of releasing a single every month for a year.

On this episode, I talk to Wynne about her career thus far as well as breaking into the music industry as a young talent. She shared the genres and people who influenced her music, and the combinations she makes with them. We also talked about her recent performances at Seattle’s Sound Off competition and South by Southwest. Wynne was fresh off a performance at Linfield college before her interview.

For the Record: Hip Hop Wrap Up 3/13

On this excerpt from the For the Record podcast, we talk about the past few weeks of hip hop news. We continue on the 21 Savage story that has developed over the past month or so, and dive into his financial literacy campaign. Another top story that’s been covered over the past few months is R. Kelly’s sexual abuse of minors. We talk about recent statements from Kelly’s former lawyer and the latest developments in the case.

Joe and Sam come back and talk about a lighter-hearted story, Jaden Smith’s efforts to bring clean water to Flint. We briefly go over the case of Lil C-Note, and shame Sam for his unpreparedness around the story. Lastly, we give an update on imprisoned rapper Tay K and the newest charges against him.

To finish off the show, Sam talks about his favorite albums that have came out over the past few weeks, and some hip hop things to look forward to.
